A Clarksville-area springtime tradition will be renewed for the 67th time next week. It's the Clarksville Area Junior Better Beef Show and Sale to be held May 8-9 at the Bartee 4-H Livestock Arena, 1921 Rossview Road.
4-Hers and Future Farmers of America from Montgomery, Houston, Robertson, Dickson, Todd and Cheatham counties will be participating with their competition steers, said Rusty Evans with the Montgomery County Agricultural Extension Service.
Activities on Monday include the weigh-in and processing of steers from 8 a.m. until noon.
The Skillathon will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. with the Showmanship Competition running from 3:30 to 6 p.m. The exhibitor and parent’s picnic supper will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. with an awards ceremony for the Rate-of Gain competition to follow at 7 p.m.
Activities on Tuesday will include the Steer Show which will begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue until noon, with the Buyers’ Luncheon running from noon until 2 p.m. and the sale of steers from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
Everyone is invited to attend the Show and Sale. Competition eligibility is open to 4-H and FFA members from the six regional counties.
Every exhibitor may enter two calves for show and sale regardless of breed and weight, and each calf must weigh a minimum of 1,000 pounds upon entering the show.
The event, widely regarded as one of the biggest and best of its kind in the southeastern U.S., is sponsored by the Kentucky-Tennessee Livestock Market, Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce, Montgomery County Farm Bureau and University of Tennessee/Tennessee State University Montgomery County Extension Service.
