Public & Community Affairs

This committee serves to act as the “voice of the business” to local, state and federal elected officials. It monitors legislation that could potentially impact the local business community. The committee also brings key state and federal officials to Clarksville-Montgomery County for presentations and programs on current topics.

The Public & Community Affairs Committee presented the 2008 Legislative Agenda on February 13.

Federal Issues:

  • Restore the Federal Highway Fund dollars to be utilized for the construction of roadways.

  • The Federal Government should fully fund the No Child Left Behind initiative with federal tax dollars.

  • Our health care system should be comprised of a combination of private health care and a government healthcare system.

State Issues:

  • The Tennessee Highway Roadway Fund should be totally utilized for the construction and maintenance of state roadways.

  • The State Legislature should promote economic and cultural development through regionalism in our area.

  • The State Legislature, through the use of the state tax dollars should mandate efforts to raise the high school graduation rates in Tennessee.

  • The State Legislature should appropriate the use of state tax dollars for capital, physical and educational improvements at Austin Peay State University.

  • The State Legislature should appropriate the use of state tax dollars to lower higher education tuition rates to ease the ever increasing burden on the Tennessee’s students.

  • We support the establishment of the The Tennessee Technology Center located in the Montgomery County Industrial Park as in independent Technology Center.

Local Issues:

  • For Clarksville and Montgomery County to continue to grow, we must make provisions for future infrastructure improvements through the formulation and implementation of a long range master plan for roadway and infrastructure improvements.

  • As our entire region continues to grow and prosper, we promote and encourage our local leadership working with and together with leadership in surrounding communities.

  • Local government should support the use of local tax dollars to increase the planning staff at the Clarksville Montgomery County Regional Planning Commission.

  • Many corporate leaders enter our community for the first time through our local airport.  We support the use of local tax dollars for the enhancement and improvement of Outlaw Field.

  • We support the use of local tax dollars for participation in the design construction and development of a Marina.
