Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce to host 23rd Annual Veterans Day Breakfast

Published Monday, October 5, 2015

The Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce will host the 23rd Annual Veterans Day Breakfast on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 7:30 a.m. in the Morgan University Center at Austin Peay State University. The event will include a buffet style breakfast, a salute to our Veterans, students from Clarksville Kiwanis Club’s Memories of Service and Sacrifice Project’s “Interview a Veteran Contest,” and CW3 (R) Scott Schroeder as the keynote speaker.

Scott Schroeder was born in January of 1966 and grew up in typical fashion in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He is the eldest child and has two younger brothers.

While growing up he was athletic and participated in many high school sports such as football, basketball, baseball and played travel hockey representing his hometown of Fort Wayne.

At 20, Scott decided that he would enlist in the Army for three years; it gave Scott a new perspective that led him to a career in the 5th Special Forces Group. Along with him for that change was his wife of 28 years, Laura, and their 19 year old son Zachary. Over the years, Scott rose through the ranks to become a Master Sergeant, which is the point at which many men begin to look at retirement. Not Scott. In 2004, he was recruited and made the choice to change again to attend the Warrant Officer Candidate Course.

Scott loves the Army and Special Forces, but recognizes that a career in Special Forces is similar to a career in professional sports. It can be great while it lasts, but it won’t last forever. “We all expect to have to retire at some time but no one expects to have a career ended by injury.”

Join us on November 7th as Scott shares his story. Please RSVP to Yvonne Pickering at 931-245-4340 or yvonnep@clarksville.tn.us. Cost for the event is $20 per person.

Also on November 7, the Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce’s Military Affairs Committee will join in APSU’s Military Appreciation Day with a Tailgate Party from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. in Tailgate Alley in advance of the APSU vs. Southeast Missouri football game at Governors Stadium. All are welcome to join in the afternoon of football, food and fun.

Free tickets to the Tailgate Party are available for all soldiers and dependents. Pick up VIP Tickets at Fort Campbell MWR Leisure Travel Office, 2840 Bastgone (inside PX). Tickets are available beginning October 16 during regular business hours.

The Tailgate Party is an initiative of the Chamber's Military Affairs Committee that seeks to provide for the military families who locate within our community. Of the belief that citizens and business owners of Clarksville-Montgomery County are a vital part of the support system for our military families, the Military Affairs Committee is dedicated to sharing in the sacrifice and helping honor the families and individuals who protect our freedoms.
