The City of Clarksville, founded in 1784, is governed by the Mayor-Council system. The Mayor is elected at-large and serves a four-year term. The City Council is composed of 12 members who are elected from wards.

Headquartered in Clarksville, is one of the top independent banks in the state. Full-service offices are located throughout Middle Tennessee in Montgomery, Rutherford, Robertson, Wilson, Putnam, Stewart, and Sumner counties. Montgomery County Government employs approximately 1,000 people and is operated by eight constitutional officials and 21 county commissioners.
